Adventure Camp

Summer

Adventure Camp is the latest addition to the STIX Diabetes Program, focusing on diabetic management and the unique challenges diabetics face during the transitional years from being a teenager to becoming an adult (ages 16-19).

The 2019 Adventure Camp was hosted in West Glacier, Montana at Great Northern Resort 275 miles outside of Spokane for a 4 day weekend retreat.

The 2020 Adventure Camp looks to the Oregon Coast for more adventures and new information/techniques of managing diabetes as a young adult.

Campers participate in and take responsibility for their diabetes care with the help of staff, consistent with the advanced maturity level we ask of an adventure camper. Campers will bring and manage their own equipment for diabetes while at camp, and receive guidance for balancing their activity level with food and insulin intake.

Adventure Camp

Camp STIX and Beyond

Campers at STIX Adventure Camp will interact with other young diabetic adults and share tips & tricks for dealing with their diabetes. This camp is meant to be a retreat, providing the opportunity to reflect on diabetes and the way it impacts our lives, and providing information that may make managing the disease easier.

We look forward to creating new traditions at STIX Adventure Camp!

History of Adventure Camp

The story of how we came to be.

Adventure Camp has been a vision for Camp STIX Programs for many years. There has always been a need for a camp tailored to young diabetic adults transitioning into a more independent way of life. Growing up with diabetes with the support of your family and friends is very different than managing diabetes independently. The goal of Adventure Camp is to provide young diabetic adults a resource to gather tips, tricks, and tools to manage their diabetes and handle the unique challenges that arise during these transitional years.

2019 is the inaugural year for Adventure Camp. A team of 7 Medical/Program Staff will be counseling/guiding a crew of 24 young diabetic men and women on an adventure in West Glacier, Montana.
